The word “Fresh” means different things to different people. In today’s complicated world of pet nutrition, “Fresh” is an often misused descriptor of products and processes. The dictionary has a simple definition…"newly made or obtained." This definition applies to Dr. G's Fresh Pet Food perfectly.
We do not make your food until you order it
then we ship it immediately to your home.
No other pet food can even come close to this procedure. We make small batches in our own facility to insure freshness and it’s NEVER shipped to an outside warehouse. UPS picks it up within 48 hours after cooking and it’s on its way to you.
What does this mean to your pet?
Some of the ingredients in pet food begin to degrade soon after it’s been made. The most unstable ingredient is fat. It doesn’t matter whether it’s animal or plant origin, fat breaks down in a process known as “oxidation”. The end-products of oxidation are “free-radicals” which are toxic molecules that damage cells. This damage has been linked to a variety of immune diseases in pets, including leukemia and cancer. Preservatives, natural and synthetic, can help slow down the oxidative process. Unfortunately, natural antioxidants have a short life span and synthetic antioxidants are toxic themselves. Pet owners are between “a rock and a hard spot”…do they feed food made with toxic synthetic antioxidants or only use natural food that begins to degrade rapidly?

LIFE STAGE FORMULAS
OR LIFE STAGE PROFITS?
The concept for a special life-stage food was developed by Ralston Purina many years ago as a way to: 1) expand their shelf space in the pet food section in stores, and 2) try and get the new pet owner (usually puppies and kittens) using their products right from the start. While this was a brilliant marketing concept, it had no basis nutritionally. Essentially every “adult” pet food sold in the United States has been tested/documented and contains a statement required by law that their food “is formulated to meet the nutritional levels establish by the AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) Pet Food Nutrient Profiles for all life stages”. This statement means that their “regular” adult food is just as good as their kitten/puppy foods for young animals. If you’d like to verify this statement, call the customer service number for the company that makes your current food and ask them this simple question…Is your adult food formulated to meet the nutritional requirements for all life stages? Obviously, there is no nutritional need or benefit from feeding a “special” diet.
Puppies and kittens do indeed require more nutrients (mainly energy) per unit of body weight than adult animals because of their accelerated metabolism and nutrients needed for growth. However, they obtain these additional nutrients by simply eating more. Similar to athletes that require more calories to support their increased needs, they obtain these nutrients by increasing their intake. They don’t require a special diet…they just need to eat a little more.
I will not allow my scientific credibility to be compromised for sake of profits by simply accepting and joining in unacceptable marketing practices. It’s time someone had the courage to confront wide-spread, popular beliefs that have no foundation in fact. I’ve been studying the nutritional requirements of pets for over 30 years and I can report unequivocally that special life-stage formulas are NOT necessary.
Even more ridiculous is the product line introduced by one major specialty pet food company that touts different formulas for different breeds of dogs…what a disreputable attempt to try and convince pet owners that there’s some validity to their absurd theory. On behalf of the pet food industry, I apologize for their lack of conscience.
Dr. G’s Fresh Pet Food will never compromise our ethics or take advantage of misinformation to sell more product.
